Otto Kellar and his wife Alma work as janitors and housekeepers at a Catholic church in Quebec. During a robbery at the house where he temporarily works as a gardener, Otto is caught and kills the owner. Wracked with guilt, he returns to the church where Father Michael Logan works late into the night. Otto confesses his crime, but when the police begin to suspect Logan's father, he is unable to reveal what he was told in his confession.
