A man in priestly robes, apparently the long-awaited Father O'Shea, arrives at a sparsely attended Catholic mission in China in 1947. Although the man seems strangely uncomfortable with his priestly duties, his harsh tactics prove very effective in Seven Villages, China, which is being devastated by civil war and revolution around it. But he has a secret and his friendship with missionary nurse Anne (a beautiful war widow) seems to take on a non-priestly tone.
