Howard Kemp is a bounty hunter who has long been hunting the murderer Ben Vandergroat. On the way to Colorado, Kemp has to face several accomplices: the old prospector Jesse Tate and the dishonorably discharged Union soldier Roy Anderson. Ben and his girlfriend are arrested, but when they find out that Vandergroat has a $5,000 bounty on his head, greed takes over.
