Bandit and Cledus are two southern truck drivers who accept Big and Little Enos's challenge to pick up a truck full of beer in Texas and return it to him within a certain time limit. Bringing him back is easy enough, but as they leave Texas, Bandit unknowingly picks up Carrie, a hitchhiking bride-to-be who has just left her groom, Junior, at the altar. However, Junior is the son of Sheriff Buford T. Justice. And when Buford and Junior find out what happened, they set off in theon a "high-speed chase" across the Southeast to catch the killer.
