Writer Jack Torrance takes a job as a winter caretaker at the Overlook Hotel in the remote mountains of Colorado. He moves in with his wife Wendy and son Danny and hopes the isolation will cure his writer's block. But as time isolates them, Jack descends into madness. Apparitions from the hotel's past appear and beg Jack to kill his family.
