After the feared wolf packs have shrunk to twelve lonely submarines, Captain Lehmann-Willenbrock (Jürgen Prochnow) once again decides to hunt downthe Allied ships. Today the situation is different: German air support and intelligence are weak and British destroyers seem to be everywhere and no longer make mistakes. Thanks to their will, seamanship and superhuman efforts, the captain and his crew manage to escape the constant attacks and reach a secret port in Portugal. But how can they cross Gibraltar to reach their port in southern France inwhen the Allied fleet is so under control?
