The film is based on the story of Charles, a biologist who is engaged to theexiled Sarah but falls in love with her, set in 19th century England. Her melancholy forces her to leave him after a short but passionate love affair. Anna and Mike, who play the characters Sarah and Charles, experience a similar relationship to that between their characters during filming.
