A shipwreck in 1886 left a man and a woman stranded in the African jungle. The old woman is pregnant and gives birth to a son in their wooden house. A family of monkeys soon raided the house, and in the ensuing panic both parents were killed. A female monkey adopts a young boy to replace her dead baby and raises him as her own son. Twenty years later, Captain Phillippe D'Arnot discovered a man who thought he was a monkey. Evidence in the cabin leads him to believe thatis a descendant of the Earl of Greystoke, and so he decides to return the man to civilization.
