Daniel Larusso and his mother moved from New Jersey to California. He's got a great job, but Daniel discovers that the dark-haired Italian boy with the Jersey accent doesn't fit with most blonde surfers, especially when he tries to date one of their girls. Daniel manages to talk his way out of the fight, but is eventually joined by several students from the same karate school. As Daniel continued his beating, he spotted Miyagi, the elder Gardner jumping into the fray and saving himagainst half of the younger ones. Miyagi and Daniel discover that the real culprit behind the children's crimes is their karate teacher. Miyagi promises to teach Daniel how to fight and prepare for the karate tournament in a few months. When his training begins, Daniel cannot understand what is being shown to him. Miyagi seems more interested in polishing fences and cars than teaching Daniel karate.
