Engineer Zac Hobson woke up one morning to find himself alone. As he investigates, it becomes clear that he is the only man alive in the world. Even in the process, everyone is lost: The ducks are still cooking, the cars are still running, the plane crashed, and the full band is still on hand. The investigation revealed that the activities of Operation Flashlight, a worldwide electrical installation project, caused significant changes in the fundamental structure of objects. As he wanders alone, his mind oscillates between enthusiasm and despair. But then he meets another survivor, a girl named Joanne, and they become lovers. That is until the third survivor, Api, a fierce Maori, appears and begins a triangle of conflict.
