A reinterpretation of William Shakespeare's 'King Lear'. Lear's friend is a 16th-century nobleman (Tatsuya Nakadai) who announces that he will divide his kingdom equally among his three sons. In her confusion, she falls into the trap of lying to her traitorous sons (Akira Terao and Jinpachi Nezu) while alienating her youngest son (Daisuke Ryu), a family member who loves her enough to tell the truth. Because of his foolish pride, thesite collapses under its own weight as the boys fight for control.
