Joan Wilder, author of the Mouse novels, receives a treasure map in the mail from her recently murdered brother-in-law. Meanwhile, his sister Elaine is kidnapped in Colombia and the two criminals responsible demand that he travel to Colombia to give his sister a map. Joan does so and soon becomes lost in the jungle after being tricked by the evil and corrupt Colombian agent Zolo, who will do anything to get a map. There he meets a notorious soldier named JackColton, who agrees to return him to civilization. Together they embark on a journey that may not be in Joan's books.
