Continuing to explore and expand his script, producer-director-actor Clint Eastwood brings together Marine Corps Sgt. He plays Tom Highway. He drinks too much and is always in trouble. On the verge of retirement and having alienated many of his superiors, Street proposes to end his career where he started by transferring to his old uniform as a gunnery sergeant. There, the small training platoon he is assigned to train is revealed to be a bunch of lazy malcontents who think thehave been duped by an embarrassing military commercial on television. The Road will challenge these bright young people to continually influence their physical and mental development, challenging them to respect themselves and know how to work as a team. This new goal is tested when Road and his men are sent to a small Caribbean island to rescue American medical students from an anti-Marxist government backed by the Cuban military.
