Matthew Broderick, in one of his first adult roles after years of playing teenage heroes, plays a failed Air Force pilot who, as punishment, is tasked with treating chimpanzees in military medical experiments. He is initially resentful, but gradually gets closer to his simian protégés (who wouldn't?). The more time he spends with them, the more he understands what they think and feel about the creatures that they are, which puts him in the middle of a moral dilemma when he realizes that the result.the experiments involve sleeping all the chimpanzees.
