Bud Fox is a Wall Street stockbroker in the early 1980s in New York with a strong desire to reach the top. Working for his company during the day, he spends his free time working closely with Gordon Gekko, a very powerful and very successful (but ruthless and greedy) broker. Fox eventually meets Gekko, who takes the youth under his wing and explains his philosophy that "greed is a good thing". Following the advice and working closely with Gekko, Fox soon finds himself in a world of "yuppies", shady business, "the good life", easy money and easy women; something that is at odds with his family, including his estranged father, and how Fox was raised.
