When spoiled, rich Bob Merrick foolishly destroys his speedboat, the rescue team revives him with equipment incapable of helping the late local hero Dr. to help Wayne Phillips. Phillips has helped many people, and when Merrick discovers Phillips' secret of selfless and secret giving, he tries it at random. The result further discourages Phillips' widow Helen, with whom Merrick fell in love. Merrick's stubbornness causes further tragedy and inhe must make changes to his life, including returning to medical school, in an attempt to rehabilitate himself and win her love.
