In 12th century Japan, Masako and her husband Takehiro are attacked in the forest by the gunfighter Tajomaru, who then kills her husband. After his arrest, he was taken to court and three witnesses came forward. As each witness and Tajomaru provide four different accounts of what happened in the forest that day, suspicion arises and motives are questioned.
