Brandon and Philip are two young people who share an apartment in New York. They consider themselves intellectually superior to their friend David Kentley and therefore decide to murder him. Together they strangle David with a rope, put the body in an old box and then throw a small party. The guests are David's father, his girlfriend Janet and their former teacher Rupert, from whom they mistakenly got their ideas. As Brandon becomes more and more courageous, Rupert begins to suspect.
