Boston, 1962. Several elderly women are strangled, probably by the same unknown assailant. An investigation begins, but the clues lead nowhere. The shrike then begins attacking younger women. John Bottomly will conduct a more thorough investigation, questioning even the most remote suspects.Meanwhile, the murders continue. Dianne Cluny survives the attack but only remembers biting her attacker's hand. When Albert DeSalvo is caught breaking into an apartment, his mental abilities are questioned. He goes to the hospital for observation and someone there notices a bite wound on his hand.
