Based on a true story from the early 1970s, the Chase Manhattan Bank in Flatbush, Brooklyn was under siege by a gay man who robbed the bank inhopes of stealing enough money for his lover to undergo gender reassignment surgery could undergo. On a hot summer afternoon, Brooklyn's First Savings Bank is stopped by Sonny and Sal, two lost heroes. Although the bank manager and tellers agree not to interfere in the robbery, Sonny states that there isn't much to steal since most of the money was collected that day. Then Sonny receives an unexpected call from Police Captain Moretti, who tells him that the place is surrounded by the entire city police force. With little choice under the circumstances, Sonnyo nervously negotiates with Moretti, demanding a safe escort to the airport and an overseas flight in return for the safety of the bank employees.
