Young Helen Keller, blind, deaf and mute since childhood, risks being institutionalized. Her lack of communication skills made her frustrated and aggressive. In desperation, her parents turn to the Perkins Institute for help, which sends them a "half-blind Yankee student" named Annie Sullivan to teach their daughter. Through persistence, love and perseverance, Annie breaks through Helena's walls of silence and darkness and teaches her to communicate.
