Vince Majestyk is a former US Army instructor and Vietnam War veteran who returns to his watermelon farm. He must harvest crops to maintain the farm'sfinancial solvency. A petty criminal tries to force Majestyk to take part in a protection operation by using drunks to work for his farm workers.Majestyk flees a gunman and instead employs skilled Mexican migrant workers who need work. The bandit reports Majestyk to the police and Majestyk is taken to the local prison. There he meets Renda, a mafia hitman who is being transferred to a maximum security prison. Renda's men try to free him from police custody. During an attempt to escape, Majestyk gains the upper hand and leaves with Renda tied up.Majestyk plans to hand Renda over to the police so he can finish the harvest. Renda offers a fortune for his freedom, but Majestyk just wants his melons back. Renda escapes and meets his henchmen. The violent Renda now wants revenge on Majestyk and orders his men to find the “melon picker” so that he can have the personal satisfaction of killing him. They gradually realize that Majestyk is not a man to be takenlightly and that he is in fact being hunted.
