McMurphy, a misbehaving criminal who evades authority, is committed to amental institution after feigning insanity to escape from prison after work. The troublemaker soon finds himself in a place worse than prison when he meets Nurse Ratched, whose rules and regulations are designed to calm patients' moods and psychotic states. Soon McMurphy turns against his new prisoners, desperately trying to revive the dead atmosphere and turn them against the dictatorship of Ratched, who believes that McMurphy's free spirit is as dangerous as his schizophrenic impulses.
