Genre : Action, Biography, Drama, War

Durasi : 132 menit

The film begins with Napoleon's forced abdication in 1814 after the Battle of Leipzig. Given that the British contribution was limited to a single rocket artillery battery, it is somewhat exaggerated (as in the film) to claim that British forces were involved in Napoleon's defeat. We then see Bonaparte land in southern France after escaping the island of Elba with his rudimentary Imperial Guard army. Bonaparte's clash with the 5th Line Regiment and MarshalNey's return to his former alliance combine into a single event. (In fact, Ney appeared four days later after Napoleon left Grenoble, so Napoleon's suggestion to "show Ney's red head to the public" could not be put into action.) The departure of Louis XVIII. is shown in Paris, although Orson Welles' brilliant portrait of the Bourbon king is a little more sympathetic than it deserves. The film quickly moves to the Duchess of Richmond's ball in Brussels on the evening of June 15th, where it can be (incorrectly) given the impression that this is the first time that Wellington learns - imparts knowledge - of the French advance across the border by John Savident (better known as Fred Elliot in Coronation Street), who plays the Prussian generalMuffling. Ligny, where Napoleon attacked the Prussians on June 16, and Quatre Bras, where Ney fought the Anglo-Dutch, receive little attention. It should be noted, however, that the Prussian commander Blücher was determined to fulfill Wellington's promise of support.
