In GOOD MORNING VIETNAM, which is based on a true story, Cronauer is a bad guy with a wicked sense of humor who moves from Crete to Saigon. Wild and eccentric, Cronauer speaks with an accent, creates characters, makes fun of everyone - including the president - and plays forbidden rock and roll songs. While his antics entertained the masses, they also landed him in hot water with his superiors, especially Lt. Steven Hauk, who would prefer the radio show to be censored, sanitized and completely non-controversial. Cronauer takes his show out of the radio station when he starts teaching English to the local Vietnamese in an attempt to meet the handsome and reserved Trinh. He befriends Trinh's brother, Tuan, who becomes an unlikely companion in these uncertain times.
