The naive and idealistic Jefferson Smith, leader of the Boy Rangers, is jokingly referred to by his state's spineless governor. He reunites with Senator JosephPaine, the state's senior senator, presidential candidate and childhood hero. In Washington, however, Smith discovered many flaws in the political process when his serious goal of establishing a statewide men's camp brought himinto conflict with the state's political leader, Jim Taylor. Taylor first tries to corrupt Smith, then tries to destroy him through scandal.
