A naive and somewhat simple young woman works as a travel companion for rich and decadent women. During one of her missions, she finds herself in Monte Carlo on the French Riviera, where she meets the handsome Maxim DeWinter, a rich and respected widower. DeWinter quickly falls in love with an insecure young woman and decides to improvise their wedding. The two return to DeWinter's mansion, Manderley, a castle-like property straight out of a fairy tale.
