A milestone in film history, EASY RIDER opened studio doors to more young directors than any other film before or since and helped create an atmosphere of openness that led to many outstanding films in the 1970s. As a director, Dennis Hopper is generally honored with the lion's share of hissuccessful film, but as time goes on it becomes clear that the contributions of the late Terry Southern and, to some extent, Jack Nicholson gave the film much of's remaining power. In Arizona they visit a commune, whose members are going through difficult times and in a small Texas town they are imprisoned for participating in a parade. But they are quickly motivated by an ACLU lawyer, the strange, hard-drinking George Hanson (Jack Nicholson), who accepts their offer , to take a trip with them to New Orleans on thewith the desire to visit the best brothel in the country.EASY RIDER accurately reflects the tensions and animosities of the time, Laszlo Kovacs' cinematography is superb, Nicholson is exceptional in his leading role and the surprise, breathtaking ending is shocking.
