An unknown cigar smoker invades the Mexican border town of San Miguel, a town where rival factions vie for control: including the employees of Sheriff John Baxter, who sells whiskey and weapons to the Indians, and those led by Ramon Rojo. When he arrives in town, the Man with No Name (sometimescalled Joe) is taunted by the Baxters, who shoot his mule in the foot. After the innkeeper learns the status quo of the city and receives a warning to leave thecity as quickly as possible, the stranger approaches Rojos and offers his services. He then takes revenge on the four men who harassed him by shooting them in the street and proving his skills.
