Sydney Pollack directs this incredibly picturesque film in which a lonely man named Jeremiah Johnson fights for peace against the ruthless Indians who use him as a target for long-awaited revenge, and against the merciless elements of nature. Set in the mid-19th century, after the Civil War, the film focuses on Jeremiah, who becomes disillusioned with the style of his civilization and the destruction caused by war and decides to survive alone in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains.
