The film begins with Union soldiers destroying the home and family of Missouri farmer Josey Wales. He joins the Confederate soldiers for revenge and, after years of fighting, refuses to surrender to Terrill, the man responsible for his family's death. He saves Jamie, a wounded young rebel, from Union soldiers who unleash Terrill and a reluctant Fletcher on them. Josey and Jamie then take in two Cherokees, a stray dog and, after rescuing them from the Comanche, an old woman and her granddaughter. They form an unlikely group when they settle on an old farm in Texas, where Josey decides to make a stop. Run and finally face your hunters.
