When petty criminal Johnny Hooker and his partner Luther inadvertentlydefraud a numbers courier, they find themselves in danger from gangster Doyle Lonigan. When Hooker finds out that Lonigan is stalking them, he tries to warn Luther, but is too late. Hooker then joined forces with Henry Gondorf, a friend of Luther. As a fraud, Gondorf forges an elaborate revenge plan against Lonigan.
